Born January 21st, 1940 in Columbus, Ohio.
Graduated from Ohio State University. Turned professional in 1961 and joined the tour the following year. Broke 80 at age 12, broke 70 at age 13, and won the Ohio State Open at age 16. Victory at the US Amateur at age 19, and the following year finished runner-up to Arnold Palmer in the US Open.
The last year as an amateur he won another title at the US Amateur, and turned professional, where he opened his tour career with a victory at the US Open after a play-off with Arnold Palmer.
18 PGA major victories and 8 senior PGA titles, Jack was honored Golfer of the Century Award in 1988 and 1996 and joined the Hall of Fame in 1974. His victory at the Tradition, a major title in the senior tour, marked his 100th title. His career is full of success not only as a tour player but also as a course designer.
